Forest Steward Home

Goal
Build a new home in the middle of a logged clear cut, for owners who took on the responsibilities of becoming forest stewards in maintaining the new forest.

Challenge
With all the trees removed from the site, the site was a blank slate of potential in where to site the house that would maintain horizon views as the forest regrew up around the house.  Locating the house was a puzzle in finding the right interlocking of pieces that included; the septic system, water well, power lines, site views and site access set into the forest contours for a unique arrival experienc to the house.

Solution
A meandering entry road to the house ends at a landscape entry garden, designed as a courtyard to give the house a feel of arriving at a mountain top retreat.  In anticipation of the forest obscuring some of the view, a tower space was designed to take advantage of a 360-degree view for the life of the house.
